I remember when they were first dragging the trails through the forest but as there has been no maintenace for some time it is largely a continous series of pot holes, like a pump track with no air

Why not buy a shovel? You ride them why not help dig them.

They cut the trails for enduro motorbikes using2 quad bikes dragging pallets behind them....... be glad to drive one...... tried to build my own on Rendlesham's only hill once, but that is another story

I went round the black route at High Lodge in Thetford forest a couple of weeks back. It did seem tediously bumpy in places, more than I remember. I know that sounds weird but there were long sections of bumps that were about three feet long and a foot deep. No way to jump them all and just not a lot of fun after a while. Other parts of the course are excellent, especially the bit with an aggressive sounding name that I've forgotton near the road from Brandon to centre parcs.

you mean the 'Beast'........... almost worth the drive up from london for that alone..... have a look on youtube for videos
sheesh. . . Hit the 'bumps' hard enough and they're a lot of fun!
dunno when you last rode it Dan but it's trashed in parts - all bumps/holes & no trail left
We could do with a campain here........ the forestry commission have spent a lot of money there and probably make it all back, but bikes are fairly central to the attraction of the forest and it should not be unreasonable for them to re-drag the marked black route.

its darn sarf init? just smooth it all over with some tarmac.
yes and put some traffic lights in

You'd think that it'd get some exposure really - being quite literally the only place in Norfolk/ Suffolk / Cambridgeshire that offers even the slightest technical challenge... Maybe contact the bike clubs in Cambridge - The Mutts Nutts Treadley club or something I think they're called..

IIRC the Breckland Cycle Club were involved at some point but it's been very much left to deteriorate over the last few years. On the odd occassion they have a race over there it's generally on trails that are normally closed to the public so there's no pressure on the FC to keep the Red & Blacks up to scratch.

they have a new map http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/pdf.nsf/pdf/thetford-bike-map.pdf/$FILE/thetford-bike-map.pdf Thetford Improved Mountain Biking Environment http://www.timbermtb.org/index.htm but for paid members only it seems
