I'm tempted too. I was having a good look at the Promaxes on my Trek today and the amount of flex in the upper part of the v brake leg is unbelievable.

You guys have moved on a bit from Avids here but I'd like to add that Avid V's are poo. They don't stay centred. I like the levers though. Work well with XTR Vs.
john are we talking stc rc v's? of so they're not too great as they have the same pad arangement as cantis, so are bitchs to set up.

thanks Alex, yeah they're Vs.
nasty, acera v's are better than them.

That's a bugger, because the levers are pretty good - never mind. BTW my experience of Deore v's has been terrible. There seems to be very little adjustment & the spring is woefully weak - wouldn't buy another set.

I find that running the pad cartridge slightly loose works well. It doesn't get knocked off kilter by braking, and you don't get the problems of the whole lot going out of line while tightening it fully. You can also hand adjust with a bit of brute force.

But as detailed earlier, my V's are pretty rubbish anyway, and my new bike next week is getting Minis.

I've not been too impresed by deore vs either - worth a few extra quid for bottom-line avids IMO.
