Even high-lift racks still obscure the light clusters on Puntos – the only solutions is a trailer board or roofrack. A trailerboard is a hassle and a roofrack slows you down a fair bit and adds maybe 20% to fuel consumption if you put two bikes on it – difference is barely noticeable with one.
I have a Thule locking roofrack for my Punto (97 P-reg so should be same shape as yours), that I may need have to sell soon - someone drove into the back of me last week and my Punto is almost certainly going to be written off. It's a good solid rack that has never given me any problems but as I’ll probably replace the Punto with something bigger none of the bits are likely to fit the new car. I also have a couple of 2 Thule bike carriers (the basic black ones that clamp the downtube and strap onto both wheels) but unless I go for a towbar-mounted carrier I’ll keep them. The Thule rack is sturdier than the Fiat one and when I bought it 2 years ago, Paddy Hopkirk didn’t do one for a Punto. Drop me an e-mail if you’re interested...
