Any idea what I should be charging for giving a work mate a lift to work ? Round trip is approx 25 miles a day. Don't want to be greedy but in light of the higher fuel prices it needs to be worth my while.
X - Commie , thanks for the info. A bit of an eye opener thro', as I currently only ask for £2.50 a day and thats with an additional 6 mile/day pick up and drop off detour. Need to think of the best way to approach this with my passenger.
Make him sit and watch you fill the car up every week.
Your doing 250 miles a week, I reckon thats just over £50 fuel for my car. Why shouldnt he pay half of that? He isnt even paying for wear and tear / seviceing at that rate.
While giving him a lift isnt directly to your disadvantage, it IS to his advantage - he doesnt have to run a car, can get twatted and still get to work the next day etc. etc.
IMO Car Sharing would mean you took your car one day, his the next.
I am all for saving the planet and car sharing, but it has to be equitable - not just an excuse for lazy feckers.
Sorry might not be clear from my first post distance is 25 miles there and back ie total 125 miles a week shared. Tho' adding the extra 6 miles a day for pick up & drop off, takes it to over 150miles a week
Personally I'd ride to work and back and save yourself £45 on the weekly fuel bill. You don't have the burden of worrying about a passenger making you late and you have more money in your pocket at the end of the week.
Best of all the taxman will be worse off to the tune of £36.
