I am looking at booking a biking holiday in Spain in October, It will probably be either with SeasonallyUNadjusted or Sierra cycling, does anybody have any experience with these companies?
Freeride Spain Might be worth asking on STW on this one. I get the impression that the Sierra Cycling riding tends towards the less technical, if that's a factor for you, but I've not ridden with either. I'd happily recommend Simon and Emma at Freeride Spain if you like your riding technical, loose and steep. Been out a load of times and the riding is great with a very chilled atmosphere.
Freeride/switchbacks and I think Ciclomontana(?)all ride in the same area of the Sierra Nevada.
If/when I go again I`m probably going with Joyriders. Partly because it is closer to Malaga for transfers. Just over the hr versus 2+ for switchbacks etc. Thats IF you get picked up and leave straight away and don`t have to wait on another flight!!!.
I did day trips with Jim @ Seasonaly and Alan/Matt @ Sierra because I booked a holiday on the Costas with my wife. I used the trains/buses & taxis to get around.
As Juan says/asks...what type of riding are you after?
Sierra have some nice Kona bikes for hiring btw. They can also cater for the dh`er. There is a cable car above malaga with lots of local rides apparently.
I would be looking more for miles of singletrack with great views, rather than pointing my bike down hill and getting there as quick as possible. Downhilling has never been my style.
Have a look at the Sierra Espuna in the Murcia region.Easy links from Alicante or Murcia airports and really quiet singletrack.Me and a mate did 3 days there, and my friend had been to all the big name areas in the USA,and the Espuna really impressed us with the amount of singletrack available. Its only really known to Spanish bikers.
If you like good food and beer the the providers that are up in the hills are best, local produce and decent beer. If you fancy some nightclubbing=sierra cycling
My flights have turned out very expensive, nearly 300 euros, I should have booked it earlier, could have goy them for at least 100 euro less a couple of months ago.
Just back from Sierra Cycing. Great singletrack riding & excellent bars & restaurants in the evening. Friendly setup on the beach. Going back next year.
Have a look at the reviews section for the various Spanish companies MSP. If you have any doubts compare with say Alp Active. Most Spanish reviewers give 100% and have no avatar - Freeride Spain was the exception amongst the ones I looked at when I vaguely thought of going.
It may not be the owners but simply satisfied guests they've persuaded to join BM to post a review. Either way, the reviews I value are from people I've seen on a few threads. There's definitely one genuine review on El Toro Loco, see if you can guess which one it is.
