Never liked the FSR's bob so the cube sounds good to.
As Said, hold for the bike you like, if you can stretch to it, then atleast you won't be always thinking, wish I'd of gone for the Cube on every thing you don't like.
Not saying, you won't like aspect of the Cube, but they'll be less noticeable.
XCMan, if we get him to get a cube, then he can tell us how it rides
Ridden various 4 bar FSR type design, i wanted a Enduro back 5years back demo'd one and HATED it, BOB BOB BOB BOB, and I've tried Marin's 4 Bar setup BOB BOB BOB, and I get to watch others with FSR's bob like crazy, the Enduro felt just like my single pivot cheap Dawes FS Team to ride at the time, definately wasn't worth wasting money on.
I demo'd a 07 Expert FSR with the brain aswell, with the brain I don't mind them, mate ended up buying it and i've borrowed it a few times, turn the brain down and BOB BOB!!
Ride a I-drive XC Man, they are seriously Taught and the pivot location makes them seriously plush and great on small bumps. Then compare back to the FSR, Giants Meastro is the only system I've ridden that matches the i-Drives in some ways better in others worse but really not alot in it.
I mean no offence to any of you guys posting on here, but I have to say that I've had to lay off coming on here a bit. Sure, I've picked up a lot of good advice on how to sort stuff out (and sincerely thank you all) and a good laugh on route, but as with most internet forums I find in important to remember the opinions being chucked around are just that. Opinions.
I also play guitar and due to popular opinion upgraded my Epiphone Les Paul (about £399 worth) to a genuine Gibson Les Paul (about £1199). For those that don't know, Epiphone are Gibson's oriental sister company, knocking out good quality but cheaper instruments. To be honest, I don't know why I bothered. Sure, it is better in nearly every way, but as I'd set up my old guitar well I still play exactly the same. Through my amp it sounds a tiny bit different. But not actually better. So why did I blow £700 more on it? Cos everyone says they're better and I thought I really notice that.
I've heard comments on here along the lines of "FSR XCs bob to much, they do this, they do that" and I'm not disputing it at all. I know there are better bikes, but I SERIOUSLY love mine. I once bought a Merlin Cycles Malt 2 because of reviews and ratings and never thought much of it. Yes, it was good but I just never thought "I really love this thing".
What I'm trying to say is that listening and reading too much can do you more harm than good. Try one before you buy (if the shop says no, then find another shop!) because a better toy does not mean more fun. Well, not always .
I hope no one takes this the wrong way, I'm not trying to stop anyone having their say (it's a forum, right?) I'm just having my own.
Good advice there Big Jobby. Once CRC are open again, I'll pop out for a test ride on the Cube AMS 100 Pro. In fairness the Spesh to me always seemed like a 2nd choice and really only cos it was cheaper. Don't get me wrong - great bike also but from what I've read and general specs/looks, I think the Cube is the one. Like I say the Cube Comp was a nice bike when i test rode it, so i only assume the pro will be better, as its the same frame, with better kit. Although one of the reviews says the Cube's frame has aged very fast, which is a little concerning, but maybe any bike could do that.
Dunno whether to wait or just buy it now. Would kick myself if it dropped £250 or thereabouts in a months time though. Afterall it's not like it's the middle of summer and I want to make the most of the good weather.
Well, if you can wait then do so. No point throwing away money on stuff for no reason.
I saw a Specialized RockHopper when I first got into mountain biking (about 7 years ago) and fell in love, so I guess that's why I eventually got a Specialized. So I'd certainly say go with your heart on that (and the Cube is a very nice looking bike) and get the Cube. I have no doubts you'll enjoy it.
But remember I've beaten lesser riders on similar/better bikes and been utterly destroyed by a guy with one hand on a £250 Halfords thingy on anything other than straightline speed.......Oh, and a bunch of girls on hardtails at Chicksands. And.............etc!
"Although one of the reviews says the Cube's frame has aged very fast..."
As a Cube owner I'm interested to know what is meant by this. Are they saying the bearings wear out quickly, the design has been superceded or something else?
....... but Big Jobby is right. Get yourself down to Halfords, more bob for your money .
Hey big jobbie, how can u say that - what an imbecile, lol. Only jokin
DB as a potential Cube purchaser I'm interested also. Unfortunately however the guy just left a post on a website and not an actual forum, so I cannot contact him. However as an owner of a Cube what do you think of them in general? How long have you had yours and do you think it has weathered ok?
Only bought my Cube in April this year but have hammered up and down quite a few alpine mountains. It's all holding up well and as BikeRadar says " the pivot bearings (proper bearings not bushings) are easy to replace.".
There are a lot more Cubes over here in central Europe and I've browsed various Cube threads on german bike forums - not picked up on any maintenance issues. The bikes here also probably get abused more that the UK as things like higher mountain tops, fairer weather and lift served downhills give us more chance to bash them. The damper environment there causes other issues although northern Germany experiences a similar weather environment.
