Big Santa ride this weekend Trail Break's final MTB event of the year imminent, complete with festive frolics and online charity auction - loads of smart kit up for grabs
Altura Trail now open New 19km trail in The Forestry Commission's Whinlatter Forest opens
Go to halfords get a Valve Stem removal tool ( £4 area + some 7.5wt fork oil )
Let the air out then remove the valve core.
Add 5ml's of oil to lube the seal inside, oil stays at the bottom to help keep the seal air tight to.
Put Valve Core back in.
Put air in forks and go see if that makes it plusher, I'm VERY sure this will improve your performance no end and no way they can see the valve's been played with.
Before you send it back if still required later, just invert the bike with air in the fork, wait 2mins for the oil to settle then open the valve this will push the new oil out so it looks totally un messed with
Need to sort some float / RS Red Rum myself for my RS's feeling like they need topping up again, which means the lowers are slowly filling up with oil also!!
I'd post them direct to Mojo with a description of what's happened they're covered by a 2 year warranty, which is void if you put non std lubes in and ride them with dirt under the seal and score the stanchion.
Which is what I said 2 days ago. There is no point in faffing about with something that's warrantied 'cause if you mess up the rest of the warranty is void.
They were yours to gamble with & you do have a degree of mechanical knowledge (what with dismantling everything you own to see if you can make it work better) - I'm guessing the OP is not that confident.
Why risk turning a small incident into a £500 fcuk up when it can be professionally sorted for free? It may be there is a known issue with the new Floats (like the old 'sticking down' RP3 problem) which will be resolved at the same time.
Upon reading the line under the title that I missed, I too agree and said send them back, personally I'm too lazy to send them back and didn't want to walk home and yes I like taking things to bits
I had and couldn't solve the RP3 sticking issue and BOY did I try if I ever have another i will be replacing the seals with UK Spec seals before I ride it in cold conditions for sure.
I was tempted to screw my own valve into the negative chamber so I could bleed it when it happened, but decided not to, despite hating that crappy RP3
well...lbs said they didn't think it would have lost any oil but have contacted the bike shop where i bought it and they are contacting mojo - hopefully this will all conclude without me risking breaking something lol
mojo sorted all and now the forks are silky smooth, just back from edale. They said that the cap shouldn't have popped out and so a seal must have been faulty. alls well that ends well! Still managed to snap a chain on rushup edge tho lol
