I'm off to Coed y Brenin in a couple of weeks and am a bit worried about the weather. Has anyone been up there recently who can give me an idea of what the trials are like at the moment? I have ridden there before when it was dry but with all the recent rain I wonder if there is a lot of mud around. I usually ride with Panaracer Cinder 2.25's but they are not great on wet rocks. Any advice?
It'll be fine. Might be some puddles and the odd muddy patch, but nothing worth worrying about. And nothing's much cop on wet rock, so no reason to worry about that either ;-)
I was there last week, and it was wet wet wet, one of the last decents was a river . We ran 2.35 Nevegals Stick-E's on the front and they were absolutely amazing. At no point did i think they were going to lose grip.
I went there a couple of years back and it p1ssed down all week, I still enjoyed all the trails though, in fact I don't remember even seeing any mud! It was all very rideable but I did have a few hairy moments on wet rocks though I think I was using conti-verts at the time which are pretty poor in those conditions.
Cinders have big contact surface area so pretty good with wet rocks to be fair to them, which is what you need.
Rode it years back in literally flooding conditions without a problem so be fine, barely saw the ground it was that bad single track turned into streams, was fun!!
