if you want the best Bio book then read, Once a warrior King.
Its all about a tour of duty of a green beret officer, he is straight out of school, and only around 21, and in charge of a special forces unit that trains locals into a militia, which are his to command, he has total control over all military action in his region, and is also the law. and his region is huge, like the size of sounthen england.
amazinging interesting how so much power was placed in the hands of such young men and how they delt with it.
The Moons a Balloon, David Niven's auto biog is a very good read. I am not usually into biogs of the rich and famous, but this is from a time when A list celebs had personalities and wild Hollywood parties.
Just finished Frank Gardner's book. He's the BBC News corespondent who was shot, along with his cameraman, in Saudi Arabia whilst on assignment. The shooting and his subsequent recovery is the main event, but the story is much broader than that and gives a very interesting insight into life, history and politics in the Middle East.
Not quite auto biog but it just shows you how bent the American political system is when it comes to handing out contracts, killing locals/there own servicemen and sacrificing blokes so they can lay siege to cities/towns. Those buggers have got a lot to answer for
Really, so much to seek, plan, experience, and read about that I could browse Amazon all day!
Must get away this Xmas somewhere warmer and interesting. Maybe a weeks trekking in the Anti Atlas to blow the cobwebs away - too much snow in the High Atlas in Dec / Jan for trekking.
