It does feel like a long bike though, not just TT but wheelbase, but unsure as to whether that's a bad thing for a full suss to be. ...
Some people do seem obsessed with going with the smallest size possible, even if it means doing odd stretched out things to seatposts saddles and stems.
I think it's a hangover from the 'small frame is stronger' days. Maybe a bit more nimble but you can't pedal efficently. I've gone from HT to Remedy gary and that's a longer wheelbase - definitely a lot more stable at speed, which you'll be doing more of on a full sus
Yeah. I've run Pikes on a Rocky Ridge and on a Setavento, I've got a set of Revelations as well and I know a couple of people runing them on a 456. They'll be spot on and you can feel the difference from the 20mm axle. Or at least it feels like you can when you're ploughing through Peak rubbleries.
If you've got 'em and a suitable wheel, just use them. They're great forks for all round trail riding unless you're a weight obsessive.
Isn't the Pitch a bit OTT for an all-day bike, though I guess it depends what you mean by 'all day'.
I'm heavy (not fat).. bit of a bodybuilder, about 14-15 stone.. hence thinking of 'all mountain/trail' rather than full suss XC.
.. I figured the Pitch to me would be like a proper strong full suss XC. only thing wimpy looking on the Pitch is the wheels.. it even comes with Pikes!
Large does sound right for a 6ft yes? 24in actual top tube! But then my 19in Gary Fisher has the same and that always felt great.
i would still build the Armadillo, they are the adaption of the Compo frame, which was legendry in their abaility to take abuse and run long forks. The rmadillo is really stiff and very strong, and not that heavy, i use mine for every type of riding as thats what i want a bike to do, i have done 50 mile endurance events and DH runs.
anyway look at chain reation and the rocky mountain bikes, great offers at the moment.
oh and if you get £100 for the armadillo you are doing well.
I love the look of my armadillo frame. Just never did anything with it, though had always planned to. Got the black rasta one. I may still do something with it. But not with the Pike. That's gone back for a refund. Looking at that review it looks like the Dillo was best suited to a 100-120 fork, so the Pike might have been wasted. The only thing that didn't impress me about the Dillo was the cable stop for the front mech. If it had been any higher, you would have never got a cable in there. If I'm honest, once aware of this imperfection, my impression of the Dillo was sullied. Probably unfair considering it's such a funky mad creative design. Maybe that project will be resurrected at Xmas, in which case.. er.. what forks? Then again, maybe I'll get rid... 3 bikes is too many.
For now I'm thinking full sus.. possibly Large Pitch (with Pike as standard). But still reading around to try and make decisions. No I can't try everything out beforehand, cos the bike shops are few and far between and never seem to have anything in the right kind of size to try. Plus they make me feel so obligated and I always get paranoid they are trying to stitch me up with whatevr is left in the store. Though I have found a local LBS that seems different.. they had me try medium and large pitch and said large looked better to me.
