I did CLIC, but with gears, and two bikes, and varying amounts of suspension. I need the granny for those sorts of distances, although I've done 12s SS.
A question....................my Maxlight SS conversion will shortly get the carbon rigid fork treatment (currently a 100mm Marzocchi SL). What out of interest are folks own opinions - HT or rigid?
I wondered also, if I get to join the Kona SS club? My '1 owner from new' '98 Lavadome is SS'd - only really gets used to dash to the shops or haul my 3yr daughter round Rutland Water (good training!)
Well yes, but some folk I've met have had 'opinions' on SS set ups and felt a true SS ought to run rigid, for that proper old skool spirit. Not that I have an opinion - run it as you want - rigid, HT,FS, v brakes, disc, track ends, chain doofers etc.
I started off on a fully rigid MTB so have no desire to go back to it. I spend too long at a keyboard - i dont think my weedy RSI ridden mits could take the extra abuse
I've yet to receive the carbon forks, so until then I won't know how it will handle rough ground (poorly obviously!). Mind you I tend to only use the SS for local trails riding and that tends to be woods/towpaths/bridleways and nothing that technical.
I couldn't go back to rigid either. I use my SS all through the winter in all situations which include alpine style descending and climbing. I like to motor on the downs and I feel a rigid front end would impinge on my fun.
Yes agreed Mike - horses for courses - my SS is for local duty on local non tech trails - therefore rigid makes sense - but anything technical would not be so good.
