How come this is on OM and not BM?

Looking at the route looks a little disappointing, way too much boardwalk, and very much in the style of wolftrax, which I didn't enjoy that much.

Have you seen the video of it.  I think just saying its boardwalk is underestimating it a little.  Granted the guy on the video is bloomin fast but it looks like its gonna be an amazing rush for people who havent quite got DH skills but still want the thrill of coming down a big hill fast.

I suppose it should be as close to riding somewhere like morzine etc as it will get in this country without full on DH rigs.

I didn't say its all boardwalk, but there looks to be quite a lot of boardwalk. that is probably dictated by the landscape rather than a design intention for the track. But when I rode wolftrax I found that the rock garden type obstacles where all in the wrong place, ie just before or after slow corners, this looks a little similar.

I don't want to go over board on being critical its quite hard to tell from a low quality video, and might feel very different when actually riding, but it does seem quite similar to wolftrax which I didn't particularly enjoy, compared with glentress which was fantastic, although sadly missing a gondola to carry me to the top.

I'm not keen on boardwalk but I think the new nevis red looks great, will hopefully get up there soon to give it a bash!!

I've just come back from a few days at Laggan, I thought the trails there were fab, especially the Upper red, black and the free ride,  i loved the big berms!  IMO the upper red and black flow really well and nothing seemed out of place.....other than the rock that stopped my head bouncing down the trail!

On the drive home I was thinking about which is my fav trail now as I have re visited Dalbeatie and Innerleithen recently, I think Glentress is still my fav with Innerleithen and Wolftrax a close second and then Dalbeatie very close to them.

I'm off to Glentress on Saturday then I might try Mabie next week.

Back to the subject.....New nevis red still looks fab!! I tried to bribe the wife to let me have a day there when we were up that way but no joy.....booooo

The Boardwalk is there due to the lack of bedrock to build the track on in certain area's.  The boardwalk sections are very fast and flowy and very scary in a couple of section, especailly the one point where it goes up and left out of sight very quickly. 

There is plenty of fun singletrack, and rocky descents to scare most people.

I did about 6 runs on it this week and enjoyed every one, even the one where by front wheel washed out in the berms near the bottom and i face planted (full face though).

I even did one run on my 4X bike and caught up with and passed several xc riders on there 6inch travel full sussers. 

The boardwalk does come in useful as a slight resting point as it does on the off beat dh track.  The red run is also a welcome change for DH'ers riding the OB DH, giving a longer and slightly less tiring run albeit with a few minor ups. 

FYI i did the other 5 runs on my Specialized Demo 7.7 in full DH mode. Will take my propght next time though!

 Just thought id post a bit about the red route

Just come home form a week at the nevis range on both routes from the top of nevis range, witches trails and Wolf Trax.

The red route is great there are some long board walk sections but these are very technical, with adverse camber, drops steps and even table top jumps built into them. Loads of fun and hard enough. There is one rock graden that is on a corner and uphill where most people were pushing but its only a legnth of about 30 feet so no bother really.

The rest of the downhill is good chanllenging rocky decents, small drop offs (30cm) and technical sections.

The last section into the car park is a little week but only short so can be forgiven as the rest is so much fun. I picked up the Black route at this point and continued down the world cup route into the car park (be warned though this way included gap jumps and unavoidable drops of about 10ft.

The red route is a good place to gain confidence in your downhill skills

Be warned, if you are expectiong a nice easy red route ride this is not it!!! Some sections are more black than red, and when i was there there were a few pissed of XC riders that had come to nevis range for a red route similar to Wolf Trax of seven stains, this is not the case. I would advise full suspention and full face helmets to get the most out of this course.
