I've recently read(www.geocities.com/ti_guy.geo/hope_faq.html) that hope XC4's, are only compatible with hope hub's 'cos otherwise they collide with the spokes. Please tell me this is not true 'cos I was hoping to buy some to fit with my coyote disc hubs.

Phil.

I think the problem is with Shimano hubs only, MBR mentioned it recently.

I've just been to Bike 2000 and had a word with one of their tech guy's about it. He tells me that they used to be a bit big and could cause some problems, but now they are machined more at the back and sould be fine with all hubs. If there is any problems however they can be spaced out from the hub using a spacer, they make one to fit, but I was already thinking of using 6 washers! I asume the caliper will have to be spaced out more to match. I'll let you know next week how they fit on the coyote's.

Kevin - this sounds interesting. My Ti frame has no disc mounts and I'm currently looking for something else to burn my money on. Can you post up the address/phone number for Arthur Caygill.

Does anyone have anything to say about the wisdom of letting someone start welding bits to your bike?

Simon

Well I now have the brakes and the hubs all fitted on my bike. To say they needed tweaking would be an understatement. Merlin luckily modified my rear hub so that it spreads the chainstays a little allowing the spokes to clear the calipers, and put three big fat hope spacers behind the disc. I'm not keen on the soloution but until I can afford a ti-glide for the rear thats the way it's staying. Same that the calipers don't get on with other brand hubs 'cos the brakes is really nice. It'll probably not do them to much good as far as sales are concerned. I would like a choice even if the hope hubs are dead good. Well anyhow after all my trawling around I can conclude that unless you are going to run the hope hubs don't bother with the XC4's.

I've got XC4 Pro's on my Cannondale F900SX. Once the shop had told Hope that the XC4's were for a Lefty fork and a CAAD 4 frame Hope supplied all the correct parts. The calliper is really close to the spokes but as the Lefty and CAAD 4 frames are both very stiff the callipers don't move at all. I think flexy forks or frames would be a problem.

So far (8 weeks) the Hope's have been flawless, unlike my previous Coda Experts, but I won't rant about them in this forum!
