If you all want good articles etc then try Mountain Bike. It's an American mag and so is short on local routes but on the whole is very well written, if loaded with ads. Smith's can order it for you and I've also seen it in Tescos. Worth a go for £2.50.

Hi I've been reading the mags since they first came out MBI & MBUK so after 10 years or longer you sort of get a bit sick of all the same articles that tend to repeat themselves. And as new developments have slowed down you only need to buy MBR or MBUK every few months just to keep a breast (or see a breast MBR!!!) The best mag was def. MTB PRO but that even lost its way with name changes etc. The only mag I get monthly now is MBI which is great because it only concentrates on the race scene which is always different & the picture are always great.

The US mags are a totally different breed to the UK mags. They have more essay style articles that are only slightly related to MTBing, more the lifestyle. Less reviews too. Brill fotography, MBRs the big picture is a luadable attempt to rip off Bikes' Buzz section, which has some of the best fotography in the industry (their sister mag Powder hold the same reverence in the snow sports world).

I lived in the US and won subscriptions to Bike and Mountain Bike, when I came back here the subscriptions came with me. What IS funny is that I can subscribe to a US mag and have it mailed to me from the US, for half the price of a UK mag subscription...So its not just bikes and bits that are a rip off here.

Dave
(read MBR as MBUK is too jumpphatgnarlydude, tho its getting better and SOME of the staff can actually string intelligent sentences together, are you paying attention Jamie look at my hair hibberd?!

Every person has a different opinion on what a mag should be like. I prefer MBR to MBUK, not because one is better the other rather because MBR suits my riding style. MBR is more for the XC rider who ventures into a little play and downhill (that's me). Of course you need easy rides for the new starters, you can't have a mag that improves with you. Ok so you know about diet control and already have a bit of knowledge many don't so hence they go back to the basics now and then. If you don't like the pics of the ladies don't look. I'm sure you would turn the TV over if you didn't like a lady semi-naked or indeed naked, wouldn't you?

God damn you all!!! I can't even find a copy of MBR this month. If I subscribe to MBR, it'll only get canned like what happened to MMB.

MBR is the only decent mag left that can tell me where to ride and what to splash my hard earned cash on. I'm just not interested in jumping off steps outside a local train station and riding shite bikes. And how can you complain about the references to beer, the workshop workmates, and all that shiny silver kit I must buy... Top Mag!

PS. Keep up the technique tips, health bits and don't be scared to review the basics once in a while. Sod em all who think they're above it.

I agree with most of the points raised in this thread.
The main thing MBR has going for it is that it is writen for adults not 15 yr old downhill wannabe's like MBUK.
The nutrition/training section does seem to be rehashing old info in less detailed ways but at least the routes come in useful.
