I'm planning some mtb routes in the Lakes using memory map and I'm not sure what kind of settings to use.
I started with 10km/hr on flat with 1min per 10m ascent but found this to be pretty much off, giving me a time of 4hrs from Borrowdale to Wasdale via Scarth Gap and Black Sail Pass!
Any ideas for what to use, if anyone here is using memory map etc?
Obviously the ascent times will change depending on the ground but any ideas what a reasonable rate would be for usual lakeland stuff (e.g. some hike a bike, etc)?
You'll find you need to tune it to your riding, but I use 15mph as the base plus 0.5 minutes per 10m ascent, 0 minutes per 10 m descent - seems to work well for in a number of places.
It's the cycling version of Naismith's Rule, reading about that will give you some background if you're interested.
