Bent my old seatpost, need a new one. Before you say anything, I can't afford a Thomson. This one looks good value, but I was wondering if anyone had any direct experience or any other comments? I know cheap carbon is controversial... I have checked, and I know I need a 27.2x350mm post. Thanks!
Well the only review on CRC says that the head started bending after two uses. An Easton EA30 is slightly cheaper and only weighs 30g more, so go for something like that.
Hmmmm. Carbon for carbons sake isn't worth it. I've an expensive FSA carbon post on one bike and an EA70 on the other and in terms of weight, flex and comfort, there is little in it. If you can stretch to the Thomson then do that, if not, I'd look for a more, erm - reputable? - alloy post.
I've been running This One for 1year+ without a creak, easy to adjust, bombproof and cheap!! Not going to be comfortable on a HT though.
The FSA's are a carbon wrap over a Alu tube, the Alu don't give and the carbon slips so your post will NEVER stay still no matter how hard you clamp it, don't bother.
Ok, I checked bikeradar and the carbon FSA post got a good review... BUT a user commented that they had one and it snapped for no reason. Methinks its not the best idea...
I can get one of these for ~£23 though, and it weighs about the same as the carbon one:
