Just bought a bottle of Mars milk shake on my way to work has some claims on the back.

"Cyclists who took mars refule were able to continue 50% longer during further exercise than when the took specialised sports drinks, and for more than 40% longer than when they took the equivalent volume of isostonic sports drinks"

tastes nice it does

A Mars a day helps you work, rest and turn your camelbak into a science experiment!

I think you should contact the advertising standards people Billy. Or contact Mars and offer to settle for a sizable sum out of court.

I'll ask the MD for her views when I next see her.

"So what’s the secret? Answer: Our optimum 4:1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein. In tests, athletes who rested and refuelled on Mars® Refuel after a bout of hard exercise kept going up to 50% longer in a second session than those who took specialised sports drinks! (Read a detailed account of the tests conducted on Mars Refuel by Runner’s World magazine, )."

Interesting article in 220 this month all about 4:1 ratios and whether they are the ultimate or not. From memory I think the conclusion was something like for one off performance no, but it did aid recovery.

They were not looking at Mars, but high5 4:1 etc.

I like mars milk after a long session, but usually make do with regular chocolate milkshake libereated from the kids treat shelf...

Well an ironman winner spent six weeks winter training chez moi. I would describe his appetite as monstrous and his diet as "more, yes please". Most impressive was his ability to eat half a box of müsli topped with half a pack of yoghurts for breakfast and then go for a run. What you eat makes no difference so long as you eat enough of it and have the right genes was my conclusion.

yes John, if your training at that level I don't think there is such a thing as "too much protein" or "too many carbs"

Your average 5-6 hours of training is probably pushing 7-8000 calories!!!

4:1 eh?

I guess my usual riding breakfast of last night's chicken vindaloo fulfills that quite nicely..
