I'm after some waterproof breatahable trousers.

Can anyone recommend any?  Upto £50 is ok.

I was hoping to use them through the winter for XC and on my road bike sometimes but want to stay away from the lycra end of the market!

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as waterproof cycle clothing that also qualifies as breathable. It all gets filled with condensation if you're pushing yourself on no matter how fancy it is. It's usually better to suffer in the cold for the first 5 minutes until you warm up. For commuting where you just want to get from A to B comfortably, pretty much any waterproof pants will do provided you combine it with waterproof shoes...

Waterproof trousers under £50, probably a waste of money. Just get some dirt cheap ones from Lidl or off a market store.

I have some of these they are waterproof except for a small leak on one of the knee seams, but they do suffer from condensation. Bought them just for a short commute have used them for a long ride but theyonly realy serve to keep the wind off and stop the chill.

If I was wanting  waterproof and breathable Probably these would be my choice

A friend of mine was recommending army surplus goretex ones and motorbike ones.  Does that sound feasible?

I have some army surplus gortex I use for fishing, thats about all they are good for.

Motorbike ones certainly tough and waterproof but you are sat inactive so dont need to be as good as "Active Sport" ones.

Trousers under £50 just aren't going to be breathable - I wear Endura Venturi eVent trousers - they're really good - but really expensive
