I want to purchase a Thule 591 bike carrier to transport my MTB and road bike. At the weekend I was reading the manual for my Trak Madone and it advised AGAINST clamping on the frame tubes for transportation. Is this normal with carbon frames? Doesn't carbon fible like being clamped in this manner? or do you think that Trek are just being cautious? It's a £2k bike so I'm reluctant to do it without seeking advise. Cheers.
I had the one where the fork is clamped, but then RockShox/Fox don't recommend that either due to side loads...
I know that when I put my carbon framed MTB in the work-stand I had to use the seatpost to clamp, as otherwise the clamp would deform the carbon (with very low pressures).
