After todays 'slightly wet' ride both my gloves & jacket have lost their waterproofness (sic).
The gloves (661's) are too bulky anyway so I've been looking at Pearl Izumi Cyclones as a replacement. Any opinions or alternatives? Not too bulky but decent level of protection preferred.
Also, is there a limit to the number of times an eVent jacket can be re-proofed? Mine soaked thru after an hour or so today & has been done several times before.
I've got some of the pearl izumi amfib jobbies but they are pretty bulky. I've yet to find a pair of gloves that keep my hands warm and dry - I've settled on using windproof gloves with a pair of merino liners so at least they stay warm.
I find staying warm is more important than staying dry. Most of the so called waterproof jackets make me feel like a boil in the bag chicken lunch so I end being soaking wet from the inside. I prefer using a soft shell which is water resistant for small showers but ultimately breathable and then a merino base layer for extra warmth. As far as gloves go I also use the Pearl Isumi jobbies which are lined which though not waterproof still keep your hands warm when wet.
event needs to be washed quite regular to keep working, wash with soap flakes or tech-wash type stuff, and the dry in a tumble dryer at a low heat to re-invigurate the waterproofness. Whatever you do keep it away from normal detergents and fabric conditioners.
As for gloves I use these through most of the winter, just swapping to insulated gloved when it get below about -5.
I've got the same ones as MSP all be it the older version I think which are really warm. Size wise they fit my hands and I would say mine are large to middling in size if that helps.
