Found a fairly light compact digital camera in the attic I've got a couple of high speed 8gb cards for the SLR so I was thinking of using the video function on the compact to experiment with the video.

I've tried heath robinsoning an old tripod screw but the helmet is too deep and the thread is different to that on my exposure helmet mount.

Any ideas, before I gaffer tape it on?

What about one of these, gaffer tape it of even zip tie it to your helmet, and you have a multi adjustable helmet mount,i ,ve got one and its great bit of engineering.

Have just emailed you some pics, of the gorrila pod, and cycle helmet.

You can also use it to fix a camera to the handlebars or any part of the bike, seat post for rear faceing shots etc.

Will try it out at the weekend hopefully.

Gorillapods don't work, not strong enough. I use this, does the job fine. I back up the camera wrist-loop with a length of shockcord and a mini-krab just in case, but it's never come loose.

You're right MW just tried a couple of solutions neither actually worked.

A gorrila pod type bendy tripod I had in the attic zip tied on came loose.

A QR tripod plate velcro strapped on worked loose too.

I'm still convinced I can get it attached just using materials I have kicking around the house though.

Maybe try this between bars and gorillapod? Might give it a try myself and see if it works.

It won't. It doesn't address the GP's problem, which is that the ball & socket design isn't stiff enough to withstand even a little vibration. The camera just tilts over on anything over than smoooth tarmac. The GP's a good minimalist tripod, but can't handle what it wasn't designed for.

I was just putting up a new video (little bit of politics...) and remembered this one has shots of the GP mounted on the bars - it mounts securely, but won't hold the camera steady for the reasons mentioned above.
