Four of us are off to Afan next weekend for an overnight trip and just wondered if anyone had any tips for the less obvious things to take and to be aware of etc?

take spare brake pads, the gritty mud eats pads when it's wet.

Yep, spare pads are a must.  Although mine survived our trip there Klunk, I stuck the bike back in the showroom and no-one even noticed

Well I after my last trip of Afan I'd say perhaps you might get some of those 661 elbow pads or similar.

MTFU and do it on a carbon singlespeed with an 80mm fork and v-brakes.

if you're sane, i'd reccomend a first aid kit, i've had to patch up quite a few riders there, some of the time, not even members of my club.

MTFU and do it on a rigid SS...get's a little hairy trying to hold on to the handlebars doing the final descent on whites after doing penhydd beforehand

People that use the abbreviation MTFU or similar, are gay losers, and probably like wearing mini skirts in private, FACT.

For a strong rider doing all the trails at Afan overnight is a good challenge only about 105km and 2000m climb.  Took me about 9 hours when I did it 18 months back but it did take three atempts.

Thanks Men!

I was trying to work out what MTFU meant and then saw DK's post

MTFU is used in a tongue in cheek fashion due to the Singletrack World gayers using it ernest

I particularly like Mike's ironic use of "MTFU" in the same sentence as "suspension fork"

Penhydd and the Wall day one, if you're feeling fit do Whites. Then do the Skyline on Day two, however on the skyline the second shortcut can be a good idea as it cuts out what is essentially a fire road loop.

Thirded...I hope that the trail builders one day consider making skyline, what could be the 'ultimate' trail.

As it stands it's one of the dullest rides I've ever done
