My mate is an electrician, so I get cheap repairs.

My washer takes quite a hammering, with work clothes and cycling gear which just attracts dirt.

Well the washing machine is in bits I stripped it down cleared out £1.20, 4 hairclips, a bobble, several magnetic fridge words, and a bunch of collar stiffeners...and lots of gunge.

Put it back together did a rinse and spin and once again the machine fills then fails to drain.

Interesting part is when the pump should be pumping it makes a sound like electricity running into the pump but the pump is not moving.

So it's back in bits and I've removed the pressure switch and the pump...took apart the pump and it's not jammed turns freely enough...well it 'clunks' through the stroke which i put down to it being an electromagnet motor. the switch act like a switch when you blow into it.

Off down the spare parts shops tomorrow to see if they've got the parts to test it...

worst case is going to be with brand new parts it doesn't work...which hopefully will end in me taking my parts for a refund and get the hotpoint man to come out and fix it...they have a £120 fix it at any parts cost.

But for the sake of all thing masculine I hope the parts will do the job
It may be a fault on the ECU, elronic control unit,a box witha load of cables comeing out of it,basicly it needs reteaching what to do.

Have you tested the pressure switch?

I've tested the pressure switch so much as it fills to the correct level, the pump is fine the electronic board is burnt...essentially beyond economical repair

So we're buying a new one...£300 hotpoint 2years guarantee or £1000 10years guarantee!

So it's fcuked then.

It's probably ok for a couple of years but after speaking to a washing machine dude today the board would be at least £150...that's half the cost of it brand new 5 years ago...

I really hate planned obsolescence, so I've suggested the Miele

Hand and soft water areas,  IIRC you're in a soft water area.

AEG or Bosch. Last Bosch went on for 15 years Current AEG is now 6 Years old.

Hotpoint was one we bought once it tried setting fire to the house.
