Similar to the French Paradox, but what that don't say though is that the French have very high rates of liver diseases.
Spain - also sunny climate (less stress?), Mediterranean diet and drinking like intelligent people rather than like North Europeans to blot our the misery of our semi-nocturnal existence and the related depressions.

Slightly off topic but......I went to Spain the other week and spent a lot of time in smaller, less touristy towns than I had before and they really do almost entirely shut down during siesta time. Twas really wierd.
For those drinking little - less than a shot of vodka a day for instance - the risk was reduced by 35%. And for thosewho drank anything from three shots to more than 11 shots each day, the risk worked out an average of 50% less. If I drank 11 shots of vodka each day I'd be skint if nothing else!
