I did the route out of the White Peak guide round Longnor a few weeks back,
I came away wishing I had stayed in the Dark Peak. It would be nice on a sunny day though.
Ditto....
Strange ride... mud, slide, flat, road, road, flat, slide, mud..then Waaaaaaa.. Great descents though, had to dab on one of them rather than run a walker over. Very different surface to the Dark Peak, no point and shoot as the front wheel danced around. We hung around and did a few of the descents a few times. The best being the final one before the Tarmac back to Longnor.. Strange area too....very very quite...still made us remember just how good the dark peak is.
good call today Gav, I really enjoyed Wharncliffe. It was great to have a go at something a bit different - twisty singletrack through the trees, switchbacks, slippery roots..... brilliant fun
Sorry Derek, but I can't see me riding the Dark Peak classics on a rigid fork for the coming months of winter - too many fast rubbly trails I'm afraid. It really held me back yesterday, particularly on Potato Alley. Besides, the rigid fork was a low maintenance thing and the old Rev's I have are pretty much knacked anyway so I won't be maintaining them!
So, Wharners eh? Bit of fro-riding going on? Hmmmm, I'll have to watch you lot.
I'm moving to Brighton - it's awesome, smooth, fast, dry singletrack in endless sunshine. Twisty, rooty, forest trails with a backdrop that someone's nicked out of a Mint Sauce strip, or maybe the other way round. And a proper tea shop with scones and cream and jam and tea pots and proper tea cups. Oh, and the company was okay as well, some bloke as used to live ooop this way, but seems to have speeded up a bit recently
fro-riding....is that what we were doing today? we did a bit of to-riding too. It's a good place to get lost.
You hated Brighton then Jon? I can see why, no rain or mud, big hills or cups of tea surrounded by walkers and ducks.
You did actually miss the sunshine up here today, it'll probably be gone by Tuesday tho, but we did find some gnarly, twisty, rooty, forest trails with the Peak as the back drop. However, no cake and tea from real cups. You know it'd probably get quite dull if it was dry and smooth all the time
