We got the following e-mail here at BM this morning. I thought you lovely people could help with the answer. see below.
"I have been looking on a UK Weather company website for information and forecasts for best weather to go out cycling. As I am a road rider I wanted to know if someone at bike magic could email me back some good details on what is the best weather to cycle and give me info of conditions people like and temp and so on. And if the details are different for other kind of cycling then let me know.
After you send this info I can pass it on to the weather website which then they will do a page just for cycling weather and forecasts."
Thanks

So we'll be able to book our favourite weather in advance? Cool!
Hot dry and sunny with miles of dusty trails for the south coast this weekend please!

Sunny but mild, with no wind. A nice early spring day is ideal for me :o)

Sun, snow, rain anything but wind. The right clothes can protect you from the above but only an engine can help you against a strong head wind, or even worse a gusty side wind.
Ideal riding is either dry and 18-22oC or dry and sub zero, too much of the wet stuff turns the trails into gloopy sludge.

 |
very slightly damp, sunny, slight cooling breeze for when you stop but not noticable when you're riding.

Got to agree with Matt anything but wind. Tho' I'd drop my ideal min temp and raise my max a few degrees 14-24C (as long as it doesn't vary to much during the ride, a constant temp is good).

With Matt on this one with the exception of rain.
Real, proper rain is no problem at all, but the fine misty, drizzly stuff is a pain in the @rse as it just gets into everything.

Reasonably warm but not roasting, dry, possibly a slight cooling breeze as per Ste's request. Sunny is not vital but it is helpful for motivating me to go out and ride in the first place.
Mind you, when I got caught in a shower during my ride on Sunday I found it surprisingly bearable. I'm not so keen on the mud it created though. I think I've been spoiled by the very dry spell we had a while back.

forget the wind, all the rest is ok..

Seems most folk all agree... incredible.
For my 10pence worth: 15-20C, *dry* being the important bit the sun is a bonus, slight breeze keeps the midges away.
Dont forget though that the previous week of weather will contribute to joyness of riding - if it's been dry for the preceeding 5 days & the trails are dry - awesome... but if it's been flooding all week and the 5th day is a scorcher - it'll still be a muddy cesspit.

I wonder if they give worldwide forecasts. I once sat down with the 'climates of the world' page of my atlas trying to work out if it was possible to cycle around the world in a year while trying to keep permanently in a '20-30 degree, dry' climate zone. Unfortunately, the only route I could work out went through too many war zones....

Sunny but cool, with a kick arse tailwind please. You know, the sort that actually helps you up hills?
On the MTB I prefer the ground just a little damp for extra traction.
