and 'indie' used to refer to the fact that the band was on an 'independant' label; so when The Smiths first appeared, on Rough Trade IIRC, they were classed as 'indie'. I bet you wouldn't class them as that now though
and how do you pigeonhole a band like New Model Army?

It might not have been a good example, but I'm afraid I wasn't impressed; I prefer Linkin Park.
But it would appear I have dubious taste in modern music. First MCR & now LP, the next thing you know I'll be owning up to liking Adam & the Ants. oops. Kings Of The Wild Frontier was actually a very good album...apart from Jolly Roger...
