Help needed!

I am soon to be going to cwmcarn for a long weekend with about 15 other guys, about 3 of whom have never been 'proper' biking before and so do not have their own bikes!

Does anyone know of any decent hire shops/facilities close to Cwmcarn? (so that we can pick up and drop back in the same day)

I would like to get hold of full sussers (4 or 5 inches), as weight is not an issue (we will be using the uplift all day) and I dont want the guys to be put off biking for life after being shaken to bits on hardtails!

Alternatively, if anyone in the area is willing to lend their bike there could be some cash in it for you! OK best not to lend a newbie your shiny santa cruz but maybe some people have 'old' bikes they arent too bothered about. Obviously we would cover the cost of any breakages anyway!

Many thanks readers.

I can't think of any shops in that area that hire out long travel bikes, best bet would be to ask the guys who run the uplift, they would probably be better connected to advise.

Last time I went, I visited bike shop in the village nearby. It was a Lapierre stockist and arranged hires for Demo Days and Cwm Carn. Can't quite remember the village name but it was just round the corner.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will try Darryl at Cwmdown as yeah he must know the area better than anyone. I did try the shop down in Risca but the guy didnt have availability for the dates we want. Gotta find some bikes for these guys though... I'm buggered if I'm gonna lend em my Orange 5!

UPDATE for anyone that comes across this thread....

Ended up using PS Cycles in Abercarn. Very good shop, friendly, organised, close to Cwmcarn, reasonable value... only issue was with some gear cables that were in bad need of lubricating so the gears hardly worked. Something to check when you pick up a hire bike!

PS: the non-bikers had a great time and no accidents surprisingly! Although one of them chose to ride down from the top on the tarmac rather than off road cos he just couldnt get the hang of standing on the pedals... funny how you take these things for granted if you've been biking for years!

Thanks again for the advice.
