G'Day,

Broadband is a bit more expensive here and the offers are nothing like we are used to in the UK. The explanation is the country is way bigger (longer cables?) and smaller population equals higher costs to maintain.

We've two options - ADSL or wireless (dongle). We've been lent a dongle on the THREE network and our usage over the last 7 days has been a bit of random searching/surfing and emails. The stats page has it as follows:

Upload - 100Mb
Download - 575Mb

The packages I'm looking at include about 6Gb of download per month so if I multiply the above by 4 I should be OK. However, Myles has his xBox live and I'm trying to work out how much 'downloading' he is doing when playing on line?

Is there a figure I can say per hour, and does 6Gb look likely to be sufficient?

Cheers

varies from game to game, something like CoD4 has a quite high bandwidth 1 Mbit/s at least I would say as a guesstimate, 60*60*1024/8 = 450 Mb/hr, so you could burn through your limit in 12 hrs.

that could be a 20x over estimate !

Aye, Xbox will not use "high bandwidth" but will use a little, all of the time.

It add's up.

Plus for games you wnt to reduce latency. ADSL will have lower latency than wireless.

Hmm, cheers guys.

In the UK we had a 40Gb limit, which to the best of my knowledge we NEVER utilised. Myles is a pretty heavy gamer on occasions (especially in the times of bad weather) although I hope to drastically reduce this over here.

Kids nowadays don't know they're born.....in my day we played out side....this is why they're all overweight....the internet is the devil.....blah blah blah.

Just thought I'd get that in before our more pointless members bring it up.

*wanders off to play COD4.....................
