After my old mobile got put in the washing machine and my network provider told me that I am not eligible for another phone for another six months(!), I need to buy one myself. I want a phone that has an internet wireless capability so I can use the phone for surfing on the internet/checking emails/wasting time on forums etc. without having to start up my PC all the time. The iPhone seems to be the must have phone but it is horribly expensive to buy outright and quite difficult to get them 'unlocked' óver here. Anyone got any good or bad experiences of other brands? What to look for and what to avoid? Thanks.

I have a n A PHONE,its an old model, when people ask what it is i just say, A PHONE. As for your old phone tke the battery out and the front off if it will be removed, wipe any moisture away from it,then wrap it and the bits in kitchen rol or toilet paper and leave somewhere warm, airing cuboard etc for abouit 12 hours, then remove the paper and repeat, for a few days, it should now be dry, reassemble, and plug in charger and it may well work,it worked with mine, an A phone.

would recommend looking at an iPhone - I bought a Nokia 5800 which is supposed to be an equivalent but the software is clunky to say the least.

Doh! I meant 5800, what the hell is a 8500? iPhone is coming to Vodafone next year but until it has proper Bluetooth I won't be getting one however good the rest of it is.

We're looking at these at w**k at the minute. Our IT bods are suggesting the Blackberry Storm or HTC Hero (which goes under different names depending on which network you get it from). They rate the HTC as the best overall - even taking the iPhone into account - as the 'Android' OS is apparently the most user friendly and adaptable. Sadly, I think I'll end up with Blackberry. Also, I believe Orange will have iPhone shortly.

Sheesh! So much gayness over a feckin' phone!

One of my minions at work has the HTC and he reckons having to use that stick all the time is a pain in the ass. Text messaging is particularly difficult as the keyboard is really small and you have to be really exact when typing. He also say not having the ability to do everything on it with one hand gets on his nerves as well. He would also have an iphone but T-Mobile are the only provider ATM here in Germany and they have the worst service record.

.jpg) I put my mobile phone throught the washing machine, it was in the pocket of my cycling jacket, and as Sadbloke says, just take it the battery out and leave parts to dry in a cool place. After three days my phone worked again, used it for another twelve months. Don't dry it near a radiator or gas fire!

I've got a Hero and it's the business. Have to admit I was a little disappointed at first, but they've just released an updated ROM and now it's really speedy I've no idea what this 'stick' is Daftpunk is talking about because it doesn't have one. And yes the keyboard is small, but when it's in landscape it's easy enough for my massive hands to use. You don't have to be exact typing either because it predicts and autocompletes. I recommend! If only the Google Sky Map app

I've no idea what this 'stick' is Daftpunk is talking about because it doesn't have one. It's possible I am mixing it with another HTC smartphone which does have a stick to use all the functions.
