I wore my Poppy with pride once again this year but have noticed that people, especially on the BBC started wearing them in October so had them on for over 2 weeks!

Is this taking it too far?

Should we be wearing them permanently at the moment?

Did you wear one at all?

A week either side - depending on which day the 11th falls on.  There is no reason not to wear one all year as the reality is they are there to remind us of the futility & waste of war.

Nope I don't feel the need to wear anything to show my support for anything.  I certainly don't feel the need to wear a poppy with regard to any current or recent conflicts and I find it strange that the BBC feel the need to place poppies on every person that appears on the TV.  The fact that 99.9% of people on TV had a poppy on devalues it IMO.

I went to the memorial ceremony in Pau and stood and watched in the rain. There's a strange mix of reminding us of the horror and futility of past conflicts and the glorification of current events as soldiers get there medals earned in current conflicts at the remembrance ceremony.

That's just wrong John, surely it's called 'rememberence' for a reason?

French soldiers from local regiments are dying in Afghanistan, are we supposed to ignore the fact or remember them too on remembrance day? I don't agree with the politics that mean they are there but then the politics that led to WWI were just as daft. I felt anger at remembrance ceremony a couple of years back when the posthumous medals for current conflicts were handed out. This time simply relief there weren't any.

Perhaps it's just me - I feel uncomfortable at the thought of handing out medals at such an event.

I wear one every year. But as a serving memeber of HM Forces the losses are never far from my mind.

It's personal choice at the end of the day and as Mike S says the practice of making everyone on BBC wear one seems a little odd. Yes great to see, but no one should wear one because they have to.

I too wear my poppy with pride.

A week either side of the 11th November feels about right.

Well I don't but can't, no poppies here.

I keep intending to visit the trenches in Ypres at some point and the Flanders Field museum, people have told me it is really quite a poignant reminder to the futillity of war.

Had a poppy taped to the side of my crash helmet for a week either side of the 11th and a  the flag of St. George over my ruck sack on the day - got loads of abuse from 'da bleddring, innit' as I cycled through the wonderful Leeds suberb of Harehills -  just gave 'em the finger. I expect to be targeted by a suicide bomber quite soon.
