I've visited the country before it split in two. I was impressed with the potential for biking; lots of forests nice hills. I have been told that the Czechs are mad about orienteering (on foot & by bike) So there must be organisations/courses laid out.

If you want to do the sightseeing bit there's a lot to see in Prague and other towns.

I can only suggest for getting hard info. try chain links or a web search. The CTC have run road tours to the country before so may have local contact names. The only thing with the ctc they prob. won't talk to you unless you are a member.

Interesting you should ask because I've thought of going there myself. I was working in the Czech Republic about 5 years ago, up in the north near the Polish border. I had a truck and used to take off when I had free time - the Tatra mountains there are full of unpaved tracks, and the roads are (or were) deserted - a legacy of communist economic mismanagement that I've seen in a bunch of other countries.

Yes i've been in the summer of '99. Had a base camp about 1 hour north east of Prague. Rode from there and also near the german border and in one of the national parks in the north east. There is some great single track in forests but in the national park some areas are no access. E-mail me for more info we have a log of routes we did.
