cannondale bike used for riding to work within london has been nicked. i am going to replace it. spec is below:

CAAD2 Commuter frame: Sure handling and super-light, Handmade in USA
Durable 1 1/8" chrome-moly fork
CODA CF2 cold-forged crankset and suspension seatpost

anyone got any suggestions of a similar bike made another manufacturer or where to buy second-hand (apart from bikemagic classfieds). hybrid bike needs to be light, fast, comfortable with top brakes!

Try getting in contact with the 'wellie serious bike company'. they know their stuff and should be able to find a great bike for you for the money that you have got.
