Is the Kona McRae edition any good. I've had a look on their website and I'm a bit confused as to why it has a 6061 alu frame and every other kona has a 7005 alu frame. Any ideas?

it's not any good at all, go for somethng without the name - you'll get a far better spec

that might be a bit harsh, but it's basically an entry level kona with the mcrae name on it ...

Um, they are really aimed people who follow motorsport[as they now do a Petronas Foggy version too]into mtbing. However most mtbers would'nt touch them with a barge pole, best to get a proper entry level bike like a Specialized Hardrock for £300, very well thought of bike that is worthy of upgrades.

its a lana'i with stickers and an inflated price tag

if you want a kona, get a close-out 2002 fire mountain or such

Thanks for the advice. I was lokking at it for a 2nd bike. I've already got a Cannondale cadd4 and wanted something to mess around on through the winter. I'll have a look at the Spec and the Fire Mountain. Thanks guys.

its been a while since this thread was running but i just wanted to update the Mcrae topic.

Iv been the proud owner of one since new, way back in 2002. Covering many many miles, both off and on road. Sure the spec wasnt very high when new but a few uprates here and there it has been sweet as a nut.

Together we have completed the West Highland Way, twice, been on most roads in Scotland and many of the cycle paths that cover the rest of the country. Various hills and trails thrown in as well, the Pentland outside Edinburgh being a favourite haunt. So it has had some serious thrashings.

It is still in perfect shape, welds are all still good and the decals still all intact. She might not have been the best bike of her time but must certainly be one of the better looking ones. It still draws admiring glances.

God Bless Colin Mcrae.. He is still missed.
