I wouldnt if I were you. Get yourself an entry level hardtail instead. Check out Kona, Giant, GT etc. A full suss at this price is not worth touching. Cheers.

For that money I'd think about buying rigid and then get a decent suspension fork when you've got a bit more money to spend.
Specialised and Trek do reasonable entry level bikes in this price range. (e.g Hardrock A1 or Trek 4300).

Paid £300 on Saturday for a Trek 4300 with front suspension and took it straight out to the local forest with my local MTB club. Moved from trailing off the back of the pack on a rigid bike to being able to keep up almost all afternoon. No idea how reliable it is yet, but worth the money for Saturday alone.

Thanks for all the good advice offered.
I just got back from my first ride on a Specialized Hard Rock A1 comp FS (Y2K)I purchased this morning. I decided to go for the ally framed version, though it cost an extra fifty quid, however with a bit of bartering the shop threw in some lights and a pair of bar ends. The bike is light, responsive and gives you a feeling of totaly being in control over rough ground.
Thanks once again for the advice, one very happy shopper!
PS. so glad I didnt buy the saracon D-tox!

Get an X-link by DiamondBack. It's much lighter and you can actually ride it.
