Check out rotor cranks, I think it is at
www.rotorcranks.com
It is a set of cranks with a cam to accellerate the cranks over the top and bottom of the stroke, to eliminate the "dead spot"
Supposed to work the same way as oval chainrings, just heavier and more complicated.

I'd hardly call their "published scientific tests" scientific. We had an athlete cycle the same journey for 3 months on traditional then 3 months on rotor cranks and the rotor cranks were more efficient. Possibly the athlete was getting fitter?
Hmmmm.

the shoulda done the route, with then 7days later without, repeated about 5times min, and took the averages of really, and done with 5 different riders to.

Always got a interest into how weird stuff works, like my I-drived bike, and I once had a Citreon BX, just to pull the suspension apart :)

My 45% ovality EggRing chainset being used to climb a 44% incline (rises 44mm for every 100mm forward).

The main difference when using this set-up is that you're more likely to get to the top of the hill and will be less tired when you get there.

They work by reducing the acceleration during the power-strokes and reducing the deceleration through the dead-spots. This efficiency gain is most evident in "high drag" conditions: steep hills, headwinds and soft ground etc. The efficiency gain on flat smooth roads is little or none.  Also, traction is improved and suspension activation (bob), is reduced.

You are risking almost certain death riding up that grassy bank without a helmet.

As the chance of a passing car knocking me off, seemed rather remote I thought I would risk cycling off-road without a helmet one more time. I do recommend that people wear helmets but after riding off-road for 25 years (with occaisional breaks), I now hardly ever fall off.  I am however very good at jumping off before I fall and even better at knowing how to stay on.  In fact my bike was designed with staying on as its core ethos.  It's never killed my knees either.
