I managed to collide with one of those traffic calming devices the other day in the dark and Im wondering what to do with the mess its made of the bike - an old but hardly used Trek 1400 alumin road bike ?
Basically the forks are all bent up, and the only other sign of damage is a slight crease on the down tube (handle bar to bott bracket?) where the cable lugs are. There is a slight crease between the 2 lugs.

1. Do I give up my sentiment and buy a frame and fork set?
2. Get some basic forks and see how it goes , tentatively, for a bit?

Also the forks are 1" threaded alloy 150mm - they dont seem to sell them anywhere. Ive seen a few CrMo on ebay - is that ok ?(assume if the top bit is slightly longer I need to buy a spacer kit?

any suggestions welcome !

thanks!

don't risk it, any frame damage is only likely to get worse

Out of interest; do road bikes normally fold after a stack? I've never owned one but have heard all sorts of horror stories..

I hit a car, square on at 35mph, my carbon forks shattered, bars snapped, front wheel folded, but I rode the (carbon) frame for a few more thousand miles before flogging it to someone else, twas fine!

I also hit a car around that speed but my front wheel ended up level with the back wheel. As for the Trek bike aluminium has a habit of failing quite suddenly (I also totalled an On One steel frame two years ago also on the downtube but it eventually snapped quite gradually 3 days later)so I wouldn't recommend riding it anymore.
