Hello there,
Nice photo. I am off to the same area in June with the wifey, but will only get 4 days riding done at most. Any advice on where to go and what trails to do. Also, are there any bike shops that hire good rides in the area or do you have to take your own?
Any info would be great.
Happy Riding
Garry

Whereabouts are you going to be? Murcia is a big old place!
That pic was, I believe, taken in the Sierra Espuna (Correct me if I'm wrong, chaps!)
I know some great trails around the La Manga/Cartagena area if you're around that way.

I'll be in Alicante visiting friends but we are going to hire a car to get away for a few days. So, anywhere in that area is cool. Sierra Espuna is likely. I've been searching on line to find somewhere to hire a bike but to no avail.
Cheers

Hmm, a bit far away from my area of knowledge, I'm afraid!
I'm sure some of the reprobates involved in the picture will be along soon....!

I've been to Torrevieja (40k northeast of Sierra de Espuna)a couple of times during summer but never really had much thought of biking due to the heat, but seeing the pic has got me interested. I've actually had a thread up on singletrackworld about this. http://www.singletrackworld.co.uk/forum/read.php?f=2&i=2906874&t=2906342#reply_2906874 check that out. also graham baxter? web site. Like the previous post says its a big area so more precise maps and routes from others would be very gratefull.

I've been to La Manga for the past 2yrs on holiday with wife and baby daughter. I've also managed to do some riding in the Calblanque National Park, which is very close to La Manga Club (where all the golf clubs are situated). Each time I have hired a hardtail from a guy called Geoff Cox who runs something called the Independent Activity centre in La Manga club. This caters for a variety of different activities as well as mountain biking. However, I know that Ian Luff (who runs the cafe at Glyncorrwg) has ridden with Geoff in Sierra de Espuna. Basically, Geoff can provide you with info about riding in that part of Spain together with guided riding and bike hire.

I can't remember if I owe Geoff a beer or if he owes me one.....!
Top bloke!

Photo was taken in Sierra Espuna, near Alhama de Murcia. I would tell you more, but I'd have to kill you! ;-) Seriously, if you have it, spend some time at the campsite in El Berro and speak nicely to the owners. The Trailrider's Guide to Spain is a great rough guide to the area, but there has been quite a bit of felling since it was written. The riding is fantastic and definitely not for the faint hearted. Alternatively, rock on over to La Manga and see Geoff at the Activity Booking Centre near the garage, buy him cake and coffee, say nice things about his photos and rent a bike or two. If he's in a good mood he may scare the pants off you by taking you down The Wall.

 Hello,
Just new to this forum, but I live just south of Torrevieja. Haven´t been to Sierra Espuna yet, but will be going very soon. I ride with a couple of mates out here, and know that finding info is nearly impossible. However try this site for some route info: http://club.telepolis.com/Mbike2004/...BikeMurcia.htm We have found some great riding locally so would say if you are thinking about riding here go for it. If you are out this way, why not get in touch for a ride out sometime.
Cheers

Hi another newbie to the forum. I've just come back from Murcia. I stayed in La Manga club at a friends apartment just around the corner from the Geof Cox's office. I hired a Kona Blast for a couple of days which was ok but i would reccomend that you try and get one of his Orange P7 as they have disc brakes. I've not used Vbrakes for at least 6 years now and they are not the most confidence inspiriing. Any way Geof's a really nice guy and will sort you out with a well maintained bike for €76 for 3 days (i think that is what i paid) pretty cheap i think. The trails are pretty good and he can advise you where to go but a guide would be best to get the most out of the single track around Portman and Cartegena (appologies if spelt wrong). I went to the darkside and hired a road bike from for a few days. Whatever you do enjoy Murcia the people and food are great. Sorry for the essay!! :0)

Hey guys I go to mill palmeras every year just north of murcia but have never taken my bike or found anywhere to hire one.I would just say theft is a real problem in this area no benefits means they need to get money from somewhere we have had our flat burgled three times in broad daylight. Its a great place lovely local people but just dont leave any kit on show they also stole two hire cars so im not very popular with car rentals either!
