HELP! Does anyone know of any Opticians which do specialist cycling glasses for us poor spec wearers. I want to be the same as all the other cool MTB'rs wearing some nice wraps. I know Oakley do them if you provide your "script" but they as we all know cost and arm and a leg.

Picked up some nice new briko Klips this week from Cycle Kingdom in Fleet for £55. They incluse an optical section inside for some lenses. Took them to specsavers who put in my perscription for £30. The result an exceleent pair of cycling glasses.
Took them out yesterday for the first time, and wow, I never knew what an improvement they made.
My advice is, if you can't wear contacts (I can't) then these seem like the best value on the market.

Oakley do just about all their shades in perscription, i belive they are quite pricey though. take a look at their web page. www.oakely.com

Briko make a cool pair of shades that clip to your specs. The model name is Clip!

I'm picking up some Bolle Paroles this week. 4 interchangable lenses - clear, yellow, gunflash(!), vermillion, with a prescription insert which sits behind. Not cheap - they cost me ukp150 with the prescription lenses. Have a look on www.bolle.com

They look great! How long do they take to order and can you get them from any Bolle dealer just by taking along your prescription?

Get them from any Bolle dealer (I got mine from the optician). You'll have to get them to order the prescription insert bit. Then take along the prescription insert to any optician along with your prescription and they'll be able to make up some prescription lenses (which sit just behind the coloured lenses). I'll report back on how I get along with mine next week. Cheers, Matt

I can't say enough about Bolle. I have a pair I use for golf and biking. I noticed after bougth them that a golf mag did an article on spec for the sport. Bolle were voted the best lenses, also the nose piece it much ligther than Oakley which is impacts the vision less. Call 0181 770 1766, speak to Lea, she was very helpful today when I needed some bits and pieces. {:-)

Thx guys (gals) found a local surf shop (Black Rock in Porthcawl South Wales) which can get me Oakley Frogskins approx £100 with a max 2 week delivery and I dont have to wear some overglasses which my local optician wanted to charge me £65 for.

Not sure what these Bolle Klips are like but I had a pair of Bolle bike specs which had the prescription insert. Major problem though, build up a sweat and the inner outer surface and the outer prescription surface (if you know what I mean) steam up, and the only way a clearing them is to disassemble...not very convient on move!

What's wrong with contacts?
Otherwise, any good optician can put any good lenses in any good glasses. This is an ideal use if, like me, you have a decent pair of glasses (Oakley in my case) but have scratched the original lenses to B^&^%$%. s'easy, get new prescription lenses fitted, hey presto"!

The Klisp are by Briko and not Bolle, and use a slightly different design. The Klips are like double glazing, with a small and removeable inner piece which holds the pescription lenses. This has not caused any misting up (except for when waiting around for fellow riders to catch me up) on descents or climbs and are sooo comfortable, that I prefer them to my normal glasses. Would look a bit silly with a suit mind you.

I got some Bolle Boomslangs from www.bowman-edge.co.uk. they gave me free lenses with them. i know ther're tennis glasses, but the proper cycling ones were too big for my lil face. Mine have prescription lenses, not the 'behind the lense inserts'.

I've got a set of these. http://www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/designer-glasses/osiris-sun-2 Great for riding - prescription lenses and I have the lenses that go dark grey in the sun - and then when i drop into shaded tree areas they go clear within about 5 seconds... reacto's? Anyway - You might be able to get the Osiris Sun 1's a little cheaper. You can get clear, yellow, shaded and reacto lenses that snap in and out easily.... S

I bought a very light pair of shades with insert from www.kontrolsports.co.uk for £25.00. I had the inserts glazed at Vuelite at The Tannery Busnesess Centre Bradford Road Northowram Halifax, with bifocals for £35.00 plus £5.00 for glazing making a total of £65.00 for a great pair of shades. Specsavers wanted £70.00 just for the lenses and glazing. Vuelite charge for lenses Single Vision £20.00 Bifocals £35.00 Varifocal £65 Glazing to own frames £5.00. You can telephone Harry at Vuelite on 01422 206934 for help and information.
