Hi there.

I've recently moved up to the Lakes and have started to form a group of people who'd like to go mountain biking on a fairly casual basis - probably some evenings and weekends but at least once a week. Rides are likely to be mainly in South Lakes but happy to go further afield sometimes.

If you're interested feel free to call on 07753 895123 or email gharrison@rsk.co.uk

May be interested in tagging along at some point.  I ride in a group of about 15 riders (At times) who ride lakes and stanes.  We are quite spread out and its sometimes quite hard to get the group together so this may be handy.

As you are new to the lakes do you have much mapped out.

I usually cant get out to the lakes until at least 7pm either but have lights etc.  Wait until you do garburn on a nightride

Hi.

Good stuff.  Yes, I'm fairly new up here so I don't have loads of routes yet but getting there.  At the moment there's a handful of people interested in riding - some beginners and some have done quite a bit (and I'm somewhere in the middle) so I guess at first the rides probably won't be anything too spectacular.

There's no fixed day yet but a couple of us are going out over Kentmere tomorrow evening for a fairly short easy ride if you fancy that.

I will see how i am fixed.  Kentmere is a fair ol drag from carlisle where i am based.

If you have memory map i could give you a head start on them routes.  I have quite a collection mapped out already.

Yes, Carlisle's quite a way so it probably won't be worth your while coming for just a short ride.  But if you're down this way anytime give me a shout and I'll also keep you in mind for when we do some longer rides.

I don't think I have memory map (don't know what it is!) but thanks very much for the offer anyway.

Maybe see you soon,

Gwen

Hi Gwen, I`m one of the Hobo crew Andrew is talking about. I am up in Dumfries so tend to come down to the Lakes for longer rides.

Whereabouts in South Lakes?

Hey great.  I've just looked on your website - looks like I don't need to start a group after all!  I'll get myself registered on your forum.

I'm in Kendal.  I've just started riding again after a few (quite a few) months of not doing much so I'd probably get pretty left behind on your epics just at the moment but a semi-epic may be ok.

sorry, not my web site.

Have only ridden with the Lakes guys once when they came up to Dalbeattie, one of my "locals". Just thought you could use them to get about.

You need to build youself up to ride some of the "classics" on the other side of the M6.

Oh, well thanks for the link anyway.  I'll definately get in touch.

I know there's a good ride over Cautley but other than that I don't really know many rides over that side of the motorway.  I'll have to go exploring when I've toughened up.

Thanks again for the advice and maybe see you down here sometime

cheers.

hope to be down sometime in July with my workmates who have only been mtbers for a couple of years. Anything in the Lakes tends to be pretty new and exciting for them!!

Are you able to get out on a weekday?

Wheelbase do regular rides I think. Also have maps of the best trail for a couple of ponds. Sure if you took a map in someone would mark it up for you.

I know the guys at Biketreks would(Andy)

Being a Kona fan I will be going to either the Grisdale or GT event.

That's a good idea to take a map in to the bike shop.  Might give it a try.

I think the bike shop rides are a bit much for me though - they're fairly hardcore I think.

Hi Gwen, welcome to the Lakes.

I moved here (Kendal) 4 years ago and have been enjoying every minute.

Try to get out at least once a week.  Occasional trips upto the Stanes, favourite is Glentress.

I usually just ride with my partner but would be interested in getting together with few others. We're not that fit though.  We usually ride under 20k.  And our skill level is low intermediate (we can ride most of red routes at trail centres).  Been riding for 3 years. Not managed yet to get up to new Altura Trail at Whinlatter - have you?

Hi there,

Since I last posted a message I've set up a google group - a sort of forum where anyone can become a member and then arrange rides on the google group site. There are about 12 of us now, with a couple more about to sign up.

We're trying to arrange at least one ride on weekday evenings and a weekend ride.  Because we don't have a specific day at the moment it's just a case of someone suggesting a day and whoever can make it goes, or suggests another one.

So if you and your partner or anyone else want to be a member just send me your email address and I can email you an 'invite' from the site.  We're not at all hardcore so no need to worry - you're probably much better / faster than us.

I haven't been over to Winlatter yet but I've heard it's good - maybe one for an autumn weekend?

Hopefully see you soon,

Gwen
