Ride leaders wanted - Manchester Mountain Bikers

There is nothing wrong with someone making money from a MTB project. But that is not what was going on here.

It looks to have been a project to dump millions of tons of waste on a natural habitat, with the cover storey of being an MTB project.

It was not BHB or myself who objected to the project, Brian posted on here trying to drum up support, people thought cool, a proper MTB facility in Manchester. Then some truths where revealed, and it all went pearshaped. It appears Brian is a compulsive liar, and even continues to constantly change his account of events now.

I have seen brian word it as Clean Soil and you call it waste.  Which is it?

Surely if its soil, it doesnt matter where the hell it came from and its actually a bonus if someone is managing to make a bit of money form it.

Sounds to me as more of a trust issue Brian than issues with the project.

LH...I have no beef with anyone making money off the back of it...shit Brian could make his million off it and I wouldn't care.

It was just two things that got people riled up IIRC:

One it was not an empty barren swampland as it was initially portrayed and was well used by walkers and wildlife watchers.

Two the general interests of Brian and or his environmental waste consultancy buisness weren't made transparent, and that's just asking for troubleif you ask me.

One would have thought that in the north you could make a much better go of it on one of the hundreds of slag heaps left over from the coal industry.

Take Pennington Flash in Leigh for instance, or the slag heaps the back of St Helens we made some wicked trails up there when we were lads.

For instance here...Just Between Rainhill & St Helens.

Big area of slag tip with good access links from Liverpool & Manchester even by rail!

If that is the case then he would prob have little to no chance of succeeding.  Makes more sense to me to not back him if this is true.  This would have me having a go at him because it is justified and easily provable.

The fact that he didnt make this info transparent is a MISTAKE but tbh i expect he wishes he had been more upfront about it.  But if you look at it another way, i think you may see it as normal.  Waste manager with tons of 'clean soil', into biking decides to use his contacts to both further his income AND improve biking in his area.  I sell vans to bikers and make some money out of it, i hope i am not seen as doing something wrong.

To be fair TLH - he was called on his involvement with the waste company a couple of times and after getting caught out he went back onto the guestbook forum thingy for the Reddish vale project and edited what he had posted to support his new story.

I think that was what put a lot of peoples backs up. I'm all for projects that do the community and the sport good but be honest. If you're a company or a consultant that could gain from the work - let it be known! Don't accuse others of lying when they find out the truth.
