Has anyone ridden the Trans Cambrian Way, I am planning on doing it next week, and then depending on how I feel at the end of it, and on the weather, may continue down the west coast of wales by road.
So I need to select tyres suitable for the TCW as well as some road work, if anyone has ridden it could advice on the likely condition of the route it would be much appreciated.
Monkey - I did it twice last summer - once in the floods and once in the dry. Just use std XC general purpose tyres. I ride Panaracer Fire XC pros 2.1. The first one I did was an extended version all the way from craven arms to Tywyn on the coast, then the std route Knighton to Macc. It can be wet in places but it's all reasonably well draining. You'll find loads of options on your map - don't get too hung up on being exact. There's a ford crossing just beyond the Claerwen res so be prepared to wade if it's too deep to ride. We did them as bivvy trips so carried full kit. Most BandB though. The record is 12hrs non-stop. We did our second trip in 16hrs - a 10hr then bivvy then 6hrs! There's a great cafe in Macc. on the right hand side of the main st on a corner opposite the pay and display car park and manky old antique shop. All day breakfasts, hot tea and hot air driers in the toilets where they don't seem to mind bikers drying off their wet gear!!! The route is on IMBA website, but no doubt you have it anyway?
I hoped to do the C2C as a 4 day bivvy trip this year but no-one was game - next year looks like a solo effort for me??
I see that a girl in a 4wd was killed in the area last night, if rivers can't be crossed in oversized cars, then I guess crossing them on foot or bike will be a no go, looks like I will have to change my plans.
