Hi all,

I recently bought a TREK FX 7.2 which i use every day for commuting,

i have done a few longer rides between 20 and 30 miles and in May '09 am going from london to paris.

But i have bigger plans in 2010 i want to ride coast to coast Canada and am starting to think that maybe i should of bought something else, a friend of mine says it is a good enough bike for the journey with maybe a few up grades (slightly larger tyres and a group set upgrade).

I really like the Trek and would prefer to upgrade rather than go down the new bike track (excuse the pun)

any opinions or advice would be very much appreciated.

Yes, it should be fine with a strong set of wheels and a new drivetrain. I use my 7.5fx for commuting and touring - will be loading it up for a trip to Rome next summer. Get some bar ends if you haven't already.

They usually come with 32mm tyres so I wouldn't have thought you'd need to go much wider than that, unless you're planning some off-road.
