I have bought a new bike which is a haro shirft R1 about 4 months ago. I went out with my mate to delamere forest and after we finish, the forks arn't bouncing up and down and i don't know what the problem is. This has happen to my mates bike aswell in exactly the same way.

Could anybody tell me what i can do or what the problem is?

 Thanks

If it's a new bike and it's 4 months old take it down the shop.

I don't know about the forks but the Suntours sound cheap you could have just knackered them

Well i bought this bike off the internet from the wiggle wedsite so i can't exactly take it there.

But the forks only work when i hold the brakes and push down the bike at the same time so i don't know if they are in that bad of a condition

yea i have adjusted the on/off but still nothing happens

Well that's not it...if you were 8/9 stone you could just have been to light for the coil.

I can really think of much other than they're a bit stiff, you say they work when you push down on the when you're off your bike but not when you ride?

One thing you should try is putting a zip tie around the stanchion (in and out bit of the fork) push it down to the dust seal then go for a ride bouncing up and down things as much as possble this will tell you the amount of travel you're actually getting.

I'd honestly take it down the local bike shop see what they say about it, chances are they'll say get a better fork.

okay thanks for that i will take it down to a bike shop

but first you said

"you say they work when you push down on the when you're off your bike but not when you ride?"

well the forks also work if you put the front wheel infront of a wall or a curb and then push down on the bike then they work aswell and this is without holding the brakes

I have the same problem with the suntours on my bike. really only work when you put your full weight over the front of the bike? might aswell be running rigid forks. I'm changing mine for a set of revelations or something similar. I find the suntours to be heavy and non responsive no matter ow much i fettle with them!
