I've just moved to Chippenham in North wiltshire and I'm struggling to find *anywhere* to ride my mountainbike. I ride mostly XC and I find that wiltshire is not countryside as I thought but a man-made hell created by farmers.
Can anyone help ?

Hey, if you find somewhere let me know - i moved to Bath 2 yrs back and haven't found any decent trails
Bristol is OK for Trials / Street
I've just come back from the Alps - 3weeks downhill and now i'm bored!
You want to try South Wales-its the best i've found down here - Elan Valley / Brecon area - otherwise far too flat for me!
I'm used to every weekend in the Lakes and now FLATLANDS!

There's the huge choice of the Ridgeway or the Ridgeway! Most of the riding round here involves this track and the bridleways leading on or off it. There are a couple of reasonable 1-2 hour loops you can put together around Avebury, Bincknoll Castle and out towards Uffington, but they are far from technically difficult and almost unridable in the wet. Don't bother with Savernake Forest as this is even less interesting than the Ridgeway. Drop me a mail if you want to meet up for some riding or some route details, but if you've got a car, your best bet is to head for the Forest of Dean which is about 1 hour away.

I've got a mate who swears by salisbury plain and such like the vale of pewsey, or westbury white hourse, or if you've a car, Bristol and ashton court aren't that far away....

i live near chippenham, and there is a trail near calne, by a weird modern bridge that you cross, but i've heard that the white house near malbourough is quite good.

can anybody tell me if there are any mtb'ing clubs in north wilts!

and does anybody know if it is possible to buy a lightweight rigid mountain bike, and then buy front suspension forks for it? cos like that it would keep the costs down, and be very light! any opinions?!
