Me and a mate are thinking of heading to Innerleithen for an uplift day on the DH courses.

Our only doubt is if we will be out of our depth skills wise!

We both ride Glentress and Kielder frequently (red and black comfortably)

Can anyone offer any advice as to how hard these courses are and the skill levels required

 thanks

Andy

We rode the XC route at Inners (well worth a try despite the first half being a mahoosive climb up to top of hill. The descent is fab)

Anyway, from the looks of it the runs are graded so I think you'll be able to find something to suit your skill level.

Just don't go thrashing blindly into any jumps or drops and as per any DH day - take it easy and spec out the course on your first run.

thanks,

I did the XC there a few years ago, I can't remember much of it except the big opening climb and some cool drops/jumps towards the end.

might have a trip up to the XC when i get a chance

You'll be fine Andy, any jump/drop has a chicken line around it and most of the tracks aren't that steep, just rooty. Deer Hunter is a good one, as is Cresta run. I'll be going at the end of the month but i won't be uplifting.

does it take long to get back upto the top if you ride/push?  I think i read somewhere it takes 45mins to an hour?

is this true?

I have always avoided the downhill 'Orange' bits at Inners. There are still some drop offs on the black XC sections that i currently dont have the stones/skill to do. I personally would want to be able to ride every single part of the XC course before playing alongside the full face helmet body armour brigade.

This doesnt really answer your question but thought that admitting to having a cowardly soul on a public forum will spur me to finally learn how to get air and do big drops proper likesay. I am sure my new larger travel frame(building this weekend) will be the right tool for the job

Depends if you do full runs or not. From the arena to the top its about 45 mins but we usually just push to the fireroad where all the tracks start. As far as i know, above that is the start of Matador which will have some jumps/drops that'll you'll want to go round

Dean=git

.....weren't we (as in Si, you, me, clocky, dave) supposed to be organising something or other at some point, somewhere, somehow...?

We were Dan, but only Simon responded to me, then decided to jump into a tree and break his wrist;-)

Inners is fine for all skill levels and bikes. On the uplift days there are full on DH rigs as well as trail bikes and HT's. Basically everyone just enjoying the hill and having a good crack.

As others have said all of the big stuff have chicken runs round them. The beauty is although there are only a few starts once you get into the trees there are lines everywhere and very rarely do you come up behind someone else or like wise is there anyone forcing you down.

As for pushing pay the £32 and get yourseld 8 runs, I guarantee if you push you will be totally bolloxed after 2 push ups, it's a big old hill!!!!

The Matadoor has the biggest drops with an 8' on the very top section and then a smaller 6' drop lower down, but as I've said you can get round them and they are in places where you see them coming.

Make or Brake is a cracker.

The XC rtoute now has a superb drop from the top of Minch Moor, rather than doing that stupid ascent back up you descend a super sweet single track with nice floaty drops etc.

The last time we had a weekend up there we took the XC bikes for the Saturday at Tress and the DH bikers for the uplift on Sunday, cracking weekend.

Enjoy
