 Anyone got experiance of the quality of service of either of these airlines when it comes to taking mountain bikes. I'm looking to fly to Geneva in July from Leeds or Manchester. I'd prefer a non-budget airline, but can only find Jet2 at Leeds and Easyjet at Manchester. Are they any good when it comes to taking bikes?

and jet2jet2 have £25 out, €33 back. but need to be pre-booked. again, print out their policy so if there's a problem, show it to them.

Thanks Mike, I accept they take them in principle, but I've flown with charter holiday flights in the past where a number of bikes never made it because there "wasn't room" in the hold. I don't know how these things work in practice, but if they run to tighter budgets then space and/or weight may be at a greater premium. So I'm interested in whether people find in practice that bikes routinely get on or not. I find airlines have plenty of small print, and argueing gets you and yer luggage off loaded too

I've not used either of the above, but Flybe have taken me and a bike in the past

Thanks Mike, but FlyBe only do a winter service from Manchester. No one out there use EasyJet & take bikes abroad?

 My mates have used Easyjet to fly to Majorca with bikes for the past 5 years or so (they're going again this Friday) without problems. All pre booked £15 each way (I think).

 easy jet have always been ok for me. £15 each way, guess its fair enough given the price of flights...

.jpg) The only time I was going to book with Easyjet was when I was going on a cycling holiday in the Netherlands. It would have cost three time more for the bike than my own fare. I ended up using the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry, the bike went free did not need to be dismantled and was locked in a bike storage area. If you are going to Geneva have you thought of using Channel Tunnel or ferries, the take a TGV train onwards?

Steve, yes we're thinking about that, but it's a fair step to the channel from Leeds. Not considered the TGV though - interesting......

Leeds to London (Kings Cross) two minute walk to St Pancras. Eurostar London St. Pancras to Paris, then Paris to Geneva. Telephone 01766 516000 and ask for European rail enquiries, they will give you details of best offers.

And an arm and a leg in train fare - possibly unfair as there's no doubt some super special saver ticket you can get if you know what to ask for (can you tell I don't use trains much  )

 Lots of our guests bring their bikes to Spain on EasyJet and, so far, none of them has had any problems. It pays to arrive at check in very early as, the fuller the plane gets, the more awkward they seem to become. Wish I had seen this thread earlier. I work for jet2.com as a Pilot and a Manager of their Newcastle Base. Yes we take bikes, yes there is a charge, check the website for details as it does occasionally change. It is always best to prebook with any airline and while our charges might be lower than others it is cheaper to book in advance on line for most things. Most importantly though, YES we look after them. We have a good relationship with the baggage handlers (at several of the home bases and destinations we have our own baggage handlers) and they are regularly monitored for stadards of service. I carry my own bike on trips abroad regularly and have never had any trouble. Many of the pilots are fellow bikers and we always keep an eye on any bike bags we see to make sure they are looked after. In 10 years I have never left anyones bike behind and have not heard of anyone else doing so, never lost one either. Probably way to late a reply for the OP but hope this helps anyone else thinking about a trip.
