Experience the challenge of a lifetime: International Childcare Trust is looking for 30 thrill-seekers to cycle over 300km from ‘Dar es Salaam, through Saadani National Park to the foot of the Uluguru Mountains outside Morogoro, whilst raising much needed money for vulnerable children in Africa and Asia. This epic challenge will take place from the 2nd to the 11th October.

Cycle Tanzania 2009 will take you off the beaten track and beyond the boundaries of a normal safari; through game reserves, passing Massai tribes and camping under the starry African sky. The ride ends with a visit to an ICT supported children’s project so you can see, first hand, how your fundraising efforts will help make a difference.

International Childcare Trust is a small dynamic UK registered charity working in direct partnership with local organisations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and India. We fund high impact targeted projects, managed and staffed by our partner organisations. These projects give deprived children and young people the essentials they need to build a life: shelter, healthcare, education, skills training and companionship.

Tanzania is one of the unique destinations on the African continent that has yet to be discovered by many. Through ICT’s cycle challenge, riders will be able to visit the historic town of Bagamayo, the mainland embarkation point for Tanzanian slaves being shipped to Zanzibar and then onto foreign lands; Saadani National Park, which is the perfect union of beach and bush, and offers the opportunity for cyclists to ride along side hippos, flamingos and giraffes; and Morogoro, a beautiful town with a dominant backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains. Could you provide me with a breakdown off the pay structure off the directors and senior staff of ICT. I would like to get involved but am concerned by the number of "charities" where little of the money filters through to those that need it.

I have copied a link from the our page on the Charity Commission website, on which you will find our latest account information. As you can see from our income and expenditure, 85% of funds that we generate go to the projects we support and where it is most needed. 

We are a small charity run on low overheads, and in our UK office we only have four full-time and one part-time members of staff. This is because we work in direct partnership with local organisations in Africa and Asia, who manage and staff the projects that we support. If you were able to join Cycle Tanzania you would have the opportunity to visit our Tanzanian partner, to see, first hand, the valuable work that it carries out.
