Has anyone checked out the bike parks in Leogang, Saalbach or Wagrain???

I'd love to find out what you guys / girls thought of the bike parks and whether they fair up against what the rest of the world has to offer.... I had so many clients telling me they'd been to Les Gets, blar blar blar and I was wondering whether it's any good compared to the park parks in Austria...

To me, and from what people have told me is that Let Gets is massively over-populated by riders???

Whats the story people???

Thanks

Jamie

The main problem with the bike parks in Austria is that they are only geared towards the experienced DHer/freerider. There is nothing for the novice or intermediate rider who wants to give the DH thing a go.
Be nice if all the obstacles were graded as the trails are [Green to Black] like jumps are in skiing/boarding parks. At least you would know what you are letting yourself in for.

It would make a lot of sense for an international grading system to be implemented. When I have seen a grading system implemented it includes the length of a course in the difficulty rating, so a long route would be a red or black regardless of technical difficulty.

IMO it would be better to just grade on the technical difficulty and leave it to the riders discretion as to weather they have the endurance for a longer run.

MSP, yep should be like rock climbing grades, its always for the hardest move no matter how long.

I completely agree with all of you with the grading system - Wagrain has a system in place with the blue, red and black trails & obstacles, ususally ten - fifteen feet before you drop into them... Still - theres' so many variences of what's a red and what's a black? It's the same with a lot of ski pistes in Austria really..

I'd disagree with trails for beginners though as Leogang, Wagrain and Hinterglemm all have a (relatively) straight forward and easy trail to learn on - I've often guided customers down these trails.. There's also free-ride trails at both Wagrain & Leogang which are very flowing and the gradient isn't too steep.

I would agree that sadly there's nothing really inbetween 'blue' and real 'DH' trails - Hinterglemm's probably the worst for it as the 'Addidas Evil Eye' is certainly not for the faint hearted..... Not signage there either, which means people could seriously mess themselves up if they dont know what they're doing. Some of the obstacles seem only rideable for the pro's or mentally unstable..

I've got some photo's of the crazy northshore drop-off's etc. - If anyone want to see how extreme some of these parks are, just drop me a line..

Perhaps what is really needed are trails that can be rolled for the less experienced but when hit at warp speed offer something for the experts. I find that people who go on MTB holidays want it to be a social as well as pure riding experience and so having the ability to ride the same trail with lesser experienced riders but still keep it interesting is the key. It is also down to the fact that barriers between disciplines are a lot more blurred in the UK compared to Europe where there are the XC riders who are all into training and fitness and the DH brigade who think they are 'keeping it real'. MTBers who want to ride stuff just for the crack seem few and far between IME.

I so agree with you Daftpunk - XCer's are all about 'carbon this, carbon that' etc. etc. - Downhillers are all about how much 'air they got off this, how much off that'.

It's funny how we are all one big happy family but are so different from one rider to the next!

LOL @ 'Keeping it real'

I like Austria, its where the real Germans live.

True story.

A few years ago I was working in Vienna and was with some Austrian colleagues in a small bar; "we are in the old Jewish quarter" the senior one said, "really" says I.

"Yes", says the more junior one, "do you have a problem with Jews in England also?"

I'd like the above rasicm to be deleted....

Is reporting racism racist? If I describe the acts of the Jews against the Palestinians as racist genocide is that racism or my interpretation of events?
