Hi all, Another newbie asking stupid Questions!!!Just looking to see if anyone has any had experience of or any advice on felt bikes. I'm new to this and i picked up a 2nd hand merdia sub 50 mtb about two mts ago and got in the habit of cycling as an alternative form of exercise, but i'm liking it lots!! .. anyway i'm not over the moon with my current one and am looking to change. I'm Looking for a hybrid for a couple of reasons (1), i'm looking to put in about two 70 km spins a week, (2) this will mainly be on roads, bad roads ,hills, paths and some off road trails (all in same spin). I'll prob be using it for some light commuting during the summer evenings too. looking for something not very high end but very reliable that i can enjoy without the worry if it falling apart every time i get on. Am looking at a Felt qx 90 2009 cos i think it suits what i need it for, it looks good and there ain't many of them about rep of ireland, any help on this would be great! Cheers in advance Bitz!

Have you thought about a Cyclocross bike? Hybrids are designed primarily for use on the road and will suffer quite quickly if you use it off road (unless you're talking canal towpaths). Felt are a good brand, but you don't see much of them this side of the Atlantic. They produce some good bikes and normally offer really good value for money so don't be put off by the fact they're not hugely well known. Although from reading your post that might be a good thing in your eyes Have a think about your route and if it's consistently rougher than your average bad city street then seriously think about the Cyclocross bikes.

hey, yea i did, but didn't like riding position or bars .. too similar to a road bike. the off road bit is a mixture of hard loose gravel and hard dirt tracks. The felt i'm looking at has suntour forks, 25mm cross country rims and 700 x 37 conti tyres so am kinda figuring that this will hold up , although i am open to correction non this

Felt had a good reputation based on triathlon bikes and BMXes a few years back but now seem to cover most market segments - even hybrids. :-/ Still whatever floats your boat and I can't think of a reason not to choose Felt.

The problem with hybrids IMO is that they're not really good for anything apart from short commute or pottering on a canal tow path. Not tough enough for off road, not light enough for road work. I'd go for a hardtail and get a second set of wheels with slicks. Swap the slicks on for the commute and keep the knobbly tyres for the rough stuff. Felt are not a bad brand though.

I though you meant a bike made of felt

I suppose ideally i'd have maybe a flat bar road bike and a MTb but unfortunatley the funds aren't stretching that far so figured somewhere in between would do! has any one any opinions on single speed or fixies have never ridden one so am wondering are they a good option as a fitness bike???
